Wheeling Nailers News Release

Wheeling, WV - The Wheeling Nailers regretfully announced today the resignation of the "Voice of the Nailers" Ned Bowdern. Ned will be leaving the organization effectively immediately and return to his home town of St. Louis, MO to pursue other opportunities.

Ned Bowdern, Director of Communications and Radio Play-by-Play Announcer for the Wheeling Nailers the past five seasons announced his resignation from the organization. Ned Bowdern, a native of St. Louis, was in his 11th season of hockey broadcasting, and his fifth with the Wheeling Nailers. Before coming to Wheeling, Ned broadcasted for the Springfield (IL) Junior Blues of the North American Hockey League, the Memphis RiverKings of the Central Hockey League, and the Central Texas Stampede of the Western Professional Hockey League.

"It is a sad day for the Wheeling Nailers to have to say goodbye to someone that has been such a mainstay with the Ohio Valley," commented Rob Brooks, president of the Wheeling Nailers. "Ned has not only been the radio voice of the team the past five seasons, but also is one of the most recognizable figures on our staff, and that is tough to replace," Brooks concluded.

Bowdern's departure will open the door for the fifth broadcaster in the history of the Wheeling organization since its arrival in 1992. Joel Stern was with the Wheeling organization for the 1992-93 season, the next year saw the arrival of Dave Goucher (now of the Boston Bruins) who worked as the broadcaster and communications director from 1993-1995. The 1995-96 season saw the addition of Bill McLaughlin as the radio broadcaster who remained with the team until his departure in 2000. Bowdern joined the team in October of 2000 and has been the radio broadcaster and communications director since that time.

Applications, along with demo tapes are now being accepted to fill the position of team broadcaster/communications director until Tuesday, August 30, 2005. Tapes and resumes should be sent to: Team Broadcaster, Wheeling Nailers, 1315 Main Street, Wheeling, WV 26003. No phones calls will be accepted.
