BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, in conjunction with the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana, would like to say thank you to all of the Mudbugs fans and supporters who contributed to our 2010 food drive at the CenturyTel Center! Thanks to your generosity, the Mudbugs and PODS will deliver nearly one ton of non-perishable food to the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana for distribution this holiday season.
As we challenged local football fans to donate in the name of their favorite nearby NFL team, supporters of the New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys stepped up to contribute a grand total of 1,742 pounds of food! That food will subsequently be distributed throughout a seven-parish area of Northwest Louisiana to help fight hunger this winter.
Saints fans stepped up with an overwhelming majority of 1,450 pounds donated to win the food drive competition, resulting in the Mudbugs wearing their black and gold Saints-style jerseys during Sunday's 5-4 comeback win over Mississippi. Cowboys fans chipped in nearly 300 pounds in their own right, and the ¬ËBugs sported blue and white Dallas-themed threads during the pre-game warm-up of Sunday's "Pucks & Pigskins" game. Both sets of uniforms were then auctioned off to the fans following the win over the RiverKings.
Once again, the Mudbugs wish to thank everyone who donated and participated in our 2010 food drive. The spirit of giving will continue for the ¬ËBugs and our supporters however, as we still have coat and toy drives coming this December.
Our next home game on Friday, December 10 not only benefits Med Camps of Louisiana for special needs kids, but also features a coat drive to support the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission and the Salvation Army. Saturday, December 11 will feature our annual "Teddy Bear Toss", where we encourage fans to bring stuffed toys to throw on the ice after our first goal as a donation to Toys for Tots. The toys will then be distributed to less fortunate children throughout our area during the holidays.
