NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (August 11)- The Texas Brahmas of the Central Hockey League (CHL) announced the signing of veteran center, Brendon Hodge, Thursday afternoon for the 2011-12 season.
Hodge, 32, will join the Brahmas following eight seasons in the CHL and ECHL. The wily veteran played the past two seasons with the Rapid City Rush, and helped lead his team to the 2010 CHL Championship title. Last season, the Lynnfield, MA native collected 35 points (8 G, 27 A) and 22 PIM in 63 games and put up three points (2 G, 1 A) in 11 playoff games.
In 2009-10, Hodge put up 57 points (23 G, 34 A) in 61 games and continued at the same pace in the postseason netting 12 points (3 G, 9 A) in 17 games. As a member of the Tulsa Oilers (2007-2009), he was able to average nearly a point a game with 89 points (37 G, 52 A) in two seasons.
The 6-foot-2, 200 pound center began his professional career in the ECHL in 2003. His four year stint in the ECHL began with the Wheeling Nailers for three seasons. Hodge racked up 158 points (58 G, 100 A) in 208 games. In his final season in the East Coast, Hodge was a member of the Stockton Thunder and put up 29 points (9 G, 20 A) in 37 games. For four years, Hodge played for the State University of New York-Plattsburgh (NCAA). As a member with the Cardinals in the Division III school, he registered 162 points (67 G, 95 A) and 130 PIM.
Prior to playing at the collegiate level, Hodge played junior hockey with the Lincoln Stars (USHL) for two seasons (1997-99). With the Stars, Hodge collected 90 points (35 G, 55 A) and 147 penalty minutes in 105 regular season games.
Brahmas Head Coach, Dan Wildfong, is excited about the acquisition of a proven offensive player.
"Having my teams play against Brendon, I have a great feel for the kind of player he is and can become. I believe he will be a great asset for our special teams and display leadership in the room," said Wildfong.
Hodge is the seventh announced signing by the Brahmas for the 2011-12 campaign; joining defensemen Jim Burichin and Ross Rouleau, forwards Alex Curran, Mike Towns and Chad Woollard and goaltender Steve Silverthorn. NYTEX Sports and The Texas Brahmas will be entering a team in the Floorball National Championships this Saturday in the soccer arena located at the NYTEX Sports Centre. The tournament will begin at 7:30 AM with the final game concluding at 6 PM.
The team will feature both past and present Brahmas favorites including Tim Laurila, Craig Minard, Matt Burto and new goaltender Steve Silverthorn. This is a great opportunity for fans to get out of the heat, receive their "hockey fix" and warm up their vocal cords before the Brahmas season.
