Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (April 5)- It is said that to repeat as a champion is one of the most difficult things to do in sports, and the Texas Brahmas will have to try and prove the theory wrong in the future as they fell 5-4 in Game Six in overtime against the Odessa Jackalopes in the Southern Conference Semifinals.
A powerplay for Odessa set the visitor's up for the first tally in the game as Kenny Bernard pushed the puck past Brett Jaeger while on the doorstep for 1-0 lead. Three minutes later a perfect setup by James Hiebert found the blade of linemate Jason Deitsch who drilled it over Toivonen's glove for the tie. Texas gained the lead with a powerplay goal of their own when Luke Sellars slapped a shot from the point for a cushy rebound for Lee Jubinville's third goal of the postseason. The game would be sent to a two all score into the first intermission as Jeff Pierce netted a goal for the Jacks just as a penalty to Brahmas blueliner Tyrell Mason expired.
Within three minutes into the middle frame Deitsch put Texas back on top with his second of the night when Juha Toivonen blemished on a screen by the Brahmas for the go ahead goal. Jordan Cameron added a fourth goal when he scored his third of the playoffs at the 15:57 mark in the period. A.J. Gale and Ross Rouleau were credited with the helpers.
A new face was in net for the Jacks to begin the third as Joel Martin came in relief for Juha Toivonen. Odessa came back in the final period with two unanswered goals by Kory Karlander and Sebastien Thinel. The score would remain to be tied sending Game Six into overtime. A goal by a streaking Collin Circelli ended Texas' season when he beat Jaeger with 17:56 remaining in the extra period.
