Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, PA-The Washington Wild Things announced former Texas Rangers prospect Ryan Bores has agreed to a contract with the Wild Things for the 2015 season. Bores is the fourth player and the second pitcher with Double-A experience to be signed by Washington in the past three days.
The native of Strongsville, OH, was drafted twice by the Rangers. The right-hander was selected in the 26th round of the 2011 MLB June Amateur Draft from Cuyahoga Community College but opted to play one more year collegiately at Kent State University. Following a standout season at Kent State, he was chosen by the Rangers again in the 27th round of the 2012 MLB June Amateur Draft.
In three seasons in the Rangers system, Bores has appeared in 65 games with the Arizona League Rangers, Hickory Crawdads, Myrtle Beach Pelicans and the Frisco Roughriders. Last season, he started the year with the Pelicans and appeared in 15 games before a mid-season promotion to Double-A Frisco. With the Roughriders in 2014, Bores posted a 2-3 record and a 2.79 ERA in 16 games (two starts). Bores faced 132 batters and registered 14 strikeouts in 21 innings of work.
A Second Team All-MAC selection in 2012, the junior owned a 10-3 record in 18 starts, striking out 68 in 110 2/3 innings for the Kent State Golden Flashes. Bores most memorable moment at Kent State occurred when he was nabbed the winning pitcher for Kent's upset victory over top-ranked University of Florida in the College World Series. Prior to Kent State, Bores spent his sophomore season on the hill at Cuyahoga Community College and competed his freshman year at Ohio University.
The Wild Things will open their 14th season in the Frontier League battling the defending Frontier League Champions, the Schaumburg Boomers, Friday, May 15th at 7:05 p.m. Individual tickets will be available for purchase on Monday, April 6 at 9:00 a.m. For season ticket packages, group outings, sponsorship opportunities or individual game tickets, call the CONSOL Energy Park Box Office at 724-250-9555 or visit www.washingtonwildthings.com.
