
Texas Rangers Announce 2015 HD Mavs Coaching Staff

The Texas Rangers have announced the 2015 coaching staff for the High Desert Mavericks.
The Mavericks join AAA- Round Rock, AA-Frisco, A-Hickory, short season A-Spokane, and rookie league AZL Rangers as the Rangers' minor league affiliates.
"The Texas Rangers have one of the strongest farm systems and some of the best managers and coaches in minor league baseball," said Mavericks' General Manager Ryan Cook. "Fans throughout the High Desert can expect to see future major league players and first-rate baseball at the best priced ballpark in Southern California. The Mavericks are excited to welcome Spike Owen and his staff to the High Desert this 2015 season."

Spike Owen is a former major league shortstop who played for the Seattle Mariners (1983-86), Boston Red Sox (1986-88), Montreal Expos (1989-92), New York Yankees (1993) and California Angels (1994-95). He made his major league debut on June 25, 1983. In his 13 seasons in the majors, he hit .246 batting average with 46 home runs and 439 RBI in 1544 games. Owen served as bench coach of the Round Rock Express, formerly the Triple-A affiliate of the Houston Astros, from 2002-2006 and was most recently the interim manager of the Express, currently a Rangers' affiliate.
Pitching coach Steve Mintz played parts of two seasons for the San Francisco Giants and the Anaheim Angels. He most recently served as the pitching coach of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans the Rangers' former Advanced-A affiliate.
Hitting coach Bobby Rose, a native of Covina, California, also knows his way around the major leagues. Bobby played on the California Angels in 1989 and, later, on the Yokohama BayStars in the Japanese Central League, where he led the league in RBI and doubles.
"It says a lot about how much the Rangers value High Desert when they send us such an accomplished coaching staff," added Cook. "Spike Owen, Steve Mintz, Bobby Rose - these guys know what it takes to make it to the major leagues, and their presence here speaks volumes about how important the Mavericks are to the Rangers' organization. This is going to be a great fit for the High Desert."
