Knoxville Smokies News Release
Chattanooga, TN - The Tennessee Smokies (9-13) came from down three to take a late lead over the Chattanooga Lookouts (14-9) before Chattanooga would go on to win 5-4 in 10 innings. Grayson Byrd, Erick Castillo, and Darius Hill all recorded multiple hits in the loss.
A T.J. Hopkins single, Lorenzo Cedrola double, and Robbie Tenerowicz single put the Lookouts ahead 2-0 in the second inning. Chattanooga would add to its lead due to a Yoel Yanqui triple and a Jose Barrero single.
Tennessee responded in the seventh inning, loading the bases with singles from Hill and Byrd and a walk from Nelson Maldanado. Castillo would come through for the Smokies, delivering a two-out single that cut the deficit to 3-2.
Smokies starter, Matt Swarmer, turned in six strong innings, allowing just three runs and five hits while striking out six.
The Smokies took their first lead of the game in the eighth inning thanks to a two-run double from Byrd that scored Zach Davis and Tyler Payne.
The Lookouts would quickly tie the game up at four in the bottom half of the eighth inning thanks to a Wilson Garcia.
After Manuel Rodriguez exited the game due to injury in the ninth inning, right hander Ben Leeper worked out of a jam to send the game to extra innings.
After Tennessee stranded the bases loaded in the top half of the 10th inning, the Lookouts secured the win with a Yanqui walk-off single.
