Rome Emperors News Release
Rome, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets defeated the Rome Braves 10-2 tonight after a 33 minute weather delay at State Mutual Stadium before 1,871 fans.
Three runs in the first inning by Augusta set the tone for the game as they would go on to score in each of the first five innings for the 9-0 lead. Shawn Payne (6) and Devin Harris (7) each hit solo home runs to spark this offensive outburst. Rome didn't get on the board until the eighth inning when Kyle Kubitza and Brandon Drury both hit RBI singles to cut into the GreenJackets lead. Augusta pitching held on to the 10-2 final. Eight out of nine Augusta starters had at least one RBI in the game.
Rome's pitching surrendered eleven walks, eleven hits, and two home runs to the GreenJackets. Fabian Williamson's (2-4) night was cut short as he was charged with the loss after 2.2 innings of work surrendering six runs and four walks. Augusta's starter, Paul Davis (6-7), was impressive as he pitched seven innings and scattered five hits on the way to the victory.
