SALISBURY, MD. - Lakewood has thrown two shutouts in the last three games- 10 total in 2012- and won 4-0 Tuesday night in Game 1 of a three-game series against the Delmarva Shorebirds.

Colin Kleven went 7.1 shutout innings for Lakewood to collect his 8th win of the season and move his personal record to .500 on the season. He struck out four batters and allowed just five hits and two walks to lower his ERA from 4.26 to 4.04, and he will have a chance to finish the season above .500 and with a sub-4.00 ERA in his final start of the season scheduled for Sunday at FirstEnergy Park.

Kleven has now gone 4-0 in five starts against Delmarva this season with two earned runs and just 19 hits allowed in 34.1 innings pitched (0.51 ERA).

The BlueClaws defense aided Kleven in the 2nd inning with the first triple play in team history. Delmarva began the inning with a bunt single from Roderick Bernadina who advanced to second base when the next batter, Lucas Herbst, reached on a fielding error by BlueClaws second baseman Alejandro Villalobos.

That put runners at first and second base with no outs for Wynston Sawyer who hit a grounder to third base which was fielded by Maikel Franco (who went 4-for-4 at the plate to raise his batting average to .271). He stepped on the third base bag, fired to Villalobos covering at second who relayed to Brock Stassi at first base to turn the triple play.

Josh Ludy connected on his first professional home run in the 2nd inning to give the BlueClaws a 1-0 lead. Ludy hit 17 home runs in 2012 with Baylor University, but had not homered in his first 97 at-bats with Lakewood.

The BlueClaws added two runs in the 5th inning and a run in the 7th to pad the lead for Kleven and Luis Paulino and Zach Cooper out of the bullpen.

Despite the win, Lakewood is eliminated from the playoffs with Hagerstown's 8-0 victory over Greensboro. The BlueClaws are 6.5 games out of first place with six games remaining in the regular season.

The BlueClaws and Shorebirds continue the series at Arthur W. Purdue Stadium Wednesday. Lakewood sends Ethan Stewart (4-9, 3.94) to the mound against Eduardo Rodriguez (5-6, 3.23) who allowed just one earned run in five innings against the BlueClaws in a start (no decision) at FirstEnergy Park last week.

First pitch for Wednesday's game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Listen to all the action on WOBM 1160-AM and WOBM 1310-AM beginning at 6:50 p.m. with the BlueClaws Beat pre-game show.
