January 24, 2010 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Omaha Lancers News Release
Dakota Eveland and CJ Ludwig registered first period tallies and that was all the offense the Lancers needed as Jeff Teglia turned in another stellar outing in goal as the Omaha Lancers dropped the Waterloo Black Hawks 2-1 Saturday evening in front of a sellout crowd at the Young Arena. With the win, the Lancers improved to 27-8-2 on the year and remain atop the West Division standings with 56 standings points. With the victory, Omaha also won the season series against the Black Hawks taking three of the four head-to-head match-ups.
Omaha fired the game's opening salvo just 53 seconds into the contest when Troy Power's cross-crease feed set up Dakota Eveland's 10th goal of the season. Seth Ambroz earned the secondary assist on Omaha's 27th first goal of the year. The Lancers then doubled the lead with just under three and a half minutes left in the first period when CJ Ludwig blasted a slap shot from the top of the left wing faceoff circle for his 7th goal of the season. Dennis Brown and Erik Haula grabbed the two assists on Ludwig's 7th power play marker of the year and Omaha's league-leading 52nd man advantage strike of the season.
After a predominantly scoreless second period of play, Waterloo finally found its way onto the scoreboard with just over three minutes left in the frame when Cody von Rueden blasted home his first career USHL goal. Brock Montpetit and Derek Arnold earned the two assists on the 5-on-5 even strength marker netted 16:55 into the middle.
That's as close as the Hawks would get, however, as Jeff Teglia and the Lancers defense held off the Hawks in the final frame sealing the 2-1 road victory.
Teglia picked up his league-leading 21st victory of the season after turning aside 30 of Waterloo's 31 shots in the game. The 2nd-year Lancer from Bloomindale, Illinois is now 3-1-1 over his last five starts having surrendered just seven goals against while posing a.957 save percentage. Waterloo's CJ Groh fell to 3-4-2 on the year in goal despite recording 26 on 28 Omaha shots.
The Lancers are back in action next Friday evening when they return home to the Omaha Civic Auditorium to take on the East Division leading Green Bay Gamblers.
