Brevard County Manatees News Release

VIERA, Fla. - In the completion of the Tuesday night's suspended game, the Brevard County Manatees fell 5-3 to the Charlotte Stone Crabs in eight innings on Wednesday afternoon at Space Coast Stadium.

The 'Tees (3-1 second half, 32-40 overall) were leading 3-2 in the top of the fifth inning when the game was suspended due to rain on Tuesday night. Greg Holle relieved Taylor Jungmann when the game resumed on Wednesday and got the final two outs of the fifth, but ran into trouble in the sixth.

With one out in the sixth, Holle hit Lucas Bailey with a pitch and then Christopher Murrill singled to right to put runners on the corners. Charlotte (2-1, 31-39) tied the game on a bunt single by Robby Price that scored Bailey and moved Murrill to second. Holle retired the next two hitters of the inning but the damage was done.

The game remained tied as it went into extra innings. Thomas Keeling came in to pitch the eighth and allowed a lead-off single to Bailey. After retiring Murrill on a sacrifice bunt, he hit Price to put runners on first and second with one out.

With Robi Estrada batting, a wild pitch by Keeling allowed the two runners to move to second and third. Estrada then drove a ball to deep left field for a sacrifice fly that allowed Bailey to score and the Stone Crabs took a 4-3 lead. Mikie Mahtook then laced a ball deep into center for a triple that scored Price and gave Charlotte a 5-3 advantage.

Brevard was unable to rally in the eighth as they went down in order to drop the first game of the three-game series.

Mike Walker drove in all three Manatee runs as two came on a double in the first and the other on a single in the third.

Manatees starting pitcher Taylor Jungmann (5-4, 3.64) did not factor into the decision as he allowed two unearned runs in 4.1 innings of work on Tuesday night before the game was suspended. Brevard's defense committed four errors in the game.
