Teams prove flexibility, consideration a priority in fan relationships

Memphis Xplorers News Release

SOUTHAVEN—Fans talked, management listened: after hearing that Maddox Sports would close the upper bowl of the DeSoto Civic Center (except in cases of an overflow crowd) during games, calls from fans began to flow into the offices of the Memphis RiverKings and Xplorers.

After careful consideration of fans' needs, the owner/operators of the two teams have come to a conclusion which will allow any season ticket holder to retain seats anywhere in the upper bowl. Group and walk-up tickets will be sold in the lower bowl only until it reaches capacity.

"Our season ticket holders are our best fans, and the key is to keep them more than satisfied," Director of Ticket Operations Chris Birch said. "With hundreds of season ticket holders in the upper bowl, we want to provide them with the best service possible."

Birch said fans had many different reasons for wishing to retain their upper bowl seats. One fan likes to stand up for long periods during the game and felt that it was inconsiderate to do so in the lower bowl, where he would be in other fans' lines of sight.

"The move was initiated with the idea of getting fans closer to the action and the players," Birch said. "We had a few season ticket holders who were pleased with the idea and took advantage of moving into the designated price levels in the lower bowl.

"Just as we have people who use season tickets as business tools, sit down close, bang on the glass with their clients and create camaraderie, we also have fans who like the perspective of watching the sport from above and those who enjoy entertaining their grandchildren from the more relaxed upper deck. The bottom line is, we want all our fans to be happy wherever they choose to sit."

Fans who wish to ask questions on any team topic and meet new Head Coach and NHL vet Kevin McClelland and recently arrived General Manager Trey Medlock can mark their calendars for the RiverKings and Xplorers Town Hall meeting on Tuesday, July 12 at 7 p.m.
