
Freight Train Runs Through the Conquest

Louisville, KY â The Louisville Fire got off to a fast start tonight in front of 6,072 fans in Freedom Hall. The Fire forced fumbles on the opening kick of the game and on Albany's second possession to take a 14-0 lead after two Demetrius "the Freight Train" Forney (U.S. Army Ironman of the Game) rushing touchdowns.
The Conquest answered with a six minute drive to pull within seven when D. Bryant (Offensive Player of the Game) rushed for a two yard touchdown with 4:27 left in the first quarter. The Fire however responded as the Freight Train found the end zone for the third time in three Fire possessions to keep the Fire ahead 20-7. The Fire added one more touchdown in the second quarter and the Conquest tacked on two as the Fire led 27-19.
The third quarter would see the first of many crazy plays in the second half when Matthew Sauk found Dennis Fryzel for a 22 yard completion. Fryzel then fumbled the ball and Albany's Jeff Higgins recovered, Higgins was then stripped by Cesare Manning who found pay dirt after a 27 yard run. Albany added a touchdown following Manning's to make it 34-33 Fire after three.
The fourth quarter began once again with "the Freight Train" breaking the Fire record for rushing touchdowns in a finding the end zone for the fourth time to keep the Fire ahead 41-33. After Jeremiah Pope scored two receiving touchdowns Albany led for the first time 47-48.
The final minute of the game the two teams combined for three touchdowns. Rob Mager's 14 yard touchdown tied the game 47-47 and Danny Kight added the point after. Albany's Buchie Ibeh broke free from the Fire defense with 10 seconds left to give Albany the led 55-48 when Bryant hit Pope for the two point conversion. Mager found his way behind the Conquest defense with eight seconds left to score a 36 yard touchdown; Kight once again nailed the extra point to tie the game. Albany had a chance to win but kicker Vinny Cirrincione's 34 yard field goal attempt missed right. The Fire's Nate Green hauled the ball in off the net and returned it 23 yards before fumbling and Albany's Higgins recovered. Higgins then lateraled the ball to Cirrincione who fumble and the Fire's Paul White recovered. White tossed the ball back to Green who was tackle and regulation ended 55-55.
The Fire wasted no time in overtime after Cirricione's kick sailed out of bounds the Fire had the ball on their own 20. Matthew Sauk completed passes of six and three yards to Nat Green and Mager respectively. "The Freight Train" would rumbled 21 yards for the go ahead touchdown, his fifth of the game. Albany had the ball and was driving until the "Freight Train" sacked Bryant causing him to fumble Ja'Dae McGuire jumped on the ball to preserve the victory for the Fire (5-3) 62-55.
