Team White Defeats Team Red
January 24, 2008 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release
The 2008 Home Hardware Top Prospects game took place in Edmonton, AB last night and was a showcase of the best eligible hockey talent for the upcoming 2008 NHL Entry Draft, including Blades defenseman Jyri Niemi.
Niemi, who was paired with defensive partner Colton Teubert of the Regina Pats, did not record a point in the game and was a +/- 0 with his team falling 8-4 to team white. Niemi's team red was coached by former Calgary Flames greats Lanny MacDonald and Mike Vernon while team white was led by Glenn Anderson and Grant Fuhr.
A total of 13,596 fans took in this year's game, making it the 4th highest attended prospects game since its inception in 1996.
Jyri made his biggest impression on NHL scouts a day earlier at the Top Prospects Skills Challenge where he won the hardest shot competition with back to back 97 mile per hour shots.
Niemi will now return to Saskatoon and rejoin the Blades immediately.
