WINNIPEG, MANITOBA, CANADA-LHP Brad Mumma (4-2) and RHP Chad Blackwell combined to hold the Winnipeg Goldeyes to just six hits and 3B Andrew Pinckney (3-4) finished with two RBI to combine for a 5-0 Joliet JackHammers (12-20) win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes (21-9) before 5,843 fans at CanWest Park on Friday night.

The JackHammers scored two unearned runs in the 3rd inning against Winnipeg RHP Ace Walker (4-1). CF Adam Klein (1-4) led off the inning with an error and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt executed by LF Gary Harris (1-4). SS Kevin Rios (1-5) laid down a beautiful bunt single to move Klein to third base.

C Phil Avlas (0-3) lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to score Klein for a 1-0 Joliet lead.

1B Freddie Thon (2-4) continued the hitting with a single that advanced Rios to second base. DH Tydus Meadows (2-4) hit an RBI double to plate Rios for a 2-0 lead.

In the 6th inning, Joliet put another run on the board against Walker. Meadows hit a one-out double and scored on a double by Pinckney to make it 3-0.

Mumma worked himself out of trouble in the 2nd inning. After Winnipeg loaded the bases with no one out in the inning, he fought back to retire C Dustin Richardson (0-4), SS Wes Long (0-5) and 2B Josh Asanovich (2-4) in a row.

He pitched six innings and allowed no runs on five hits for the victory.

Blackwell allowed one hit over three innings pitched to get his second save of the season.

The JackHammers scored a pair of insurance runs in the 9th inning on back-to-back solo home runs by Pinckney and RF Wally Backman, Jr. (1-3) Pinckney led off the inning by sneaking a ball inside the right field foul pole for a 4-0 Joliet lead.

Backman, Jr., a switch-hitter batting from the right side of the plate, pulled a pitch from LHP Zach Baldwin over the left field wall for his first home run of the season to make it 5-0.

Joliet continues it's four-game series against Winnipeg on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. RHP Rory Shortell (2-1, 4.17) gets the start for the JackHammers against RHP Bear Bay (4-1, 3.73) for the Goldeyes. Pre-game coverage begins at 5:45 p.m. on AM 1340 WJOL and online at www.jackhammerbaseball.com.
