Frederick Keys News Release

FREDERICK, MD - Frederick starter Matt Taylor darted zeroes for seven innings and earned his third win of the year, as the Keys split a four-game series with a 6-1 win over Myrtle Beach on Sunday night. A pair of runs in the second, two more in the seventh, and single runs in the eighth and ninth innings handed the Keys their 12th win of the year.

Frederick recorded two hits in the first for the second straight night, but couldn't score against Pelicans starter Sam Wolff. That changed in the third when Lucas Herbst lifted one of his three RBI's with a double down the left field line to bring home Glynn Davis. Zane Chavez drove Herbst home and it was 2-0 Keys after the third.

Taylor would allow a double in the second to Nick Williams, a single to Zach Cone in the fourth, and another two-bagger to Cone in the fifth, but no runner advanced past second base against the lefty. Taylor has thrown 13 innings in his last two starts and allowed just two unearned runs. He is now 3-1 with a 1.32 ERA through six starts in 2014.

He would receive some insurance in the seventh, as the Keys would plate two more on a single by Herbst, who had a season-high three RBIs. The two-out single against Wolff scored Adrian Marin and Tucker Nathans. Herbst has an eight-game hitting streak and has recorded six multi-hit games in 2014. Wolff allowed four runs, three earned, in seven innings.

Frederick's Creede Simpson blasted his fourth home run of the season and second of the series out to left field against Myrtle Beach reliever Cody Ege. The Keys added another in the ninth inning on Davis's 13th RBI of the year.

The Pelicans avoided the shutout with an RBI single by Cone in the ninth, but Lex Rutledge, who pitched the last two innings, stranded three on the bases to end the game.

Frederick travels to Potomac for a three-game set starting on Monday. Jesse Beal (0-0, 4.41) will go for the Keys, who sit 4.5 games behind the Nationals for first place in the Northern Division. Game time is 7:05 p.m.

The Frederick Keys are the Advanced-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, and play their home games at Harry Grove Stadium. For more information about the Frederick Keys please contact Geoff Arnold by phone at (301)-815-9915 or by emailing at GArnold@FrederickKeys.com.
