Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - The show that gave Canada's best undiscovered hockey players a second chance at realizing their dreams is back for a second round, and Victoria Salmon Kings players Adam Taylor and Warren McCutcheon were front and centre.

Making the Cut: Last Man Standing premieres Saturday, September 23rd at 8 p.m. on Global, and will showcase players competing for the $250,000 endorsement contract and representation from a top National Hockey League (NHL) agent.

The four-part series shows on-ice drills and scrimmages under the watch of Stanley Cup winning coach Mike Keenan and Florida Panthers' Director of Hockey Operations Jack Birch, as well as behind the scenes footage and player interviews. The determined athletes are eliminated one by one until the last man standing is crowned the champion.

The first series (Bell Making the Cut) aired in September 2004 on CBC. The top 68 players selected from the Tryout Challenges arrived at camp from all over Canada and met with Director of Hockey Operations Jack Birch and hockey legends Scotty Bowman and Mike Keenan, before dividing into Team Bowman and Team Keenan. Current Salmon Kings player Ryan Thrussell participated in the challenge in Vernon, BC in 2004.

"It was a good experience and I was surprised at the level of hockey," said Thrussell, a 25-year-old Defenseman from Vancouver, BC. "As soon as we arrived, we were right into it, and the competition lasted for two and a half weeks."

Episode two of Making the Cut: Last Man Standing airs Sunday September 24th at 4:30 p.m. (PT) on Global. Episode three shows on Saturday September 30th at 8:00 p.m. and episode four follows Sunday October 1st at 4:30 p.m. (PT), both on Global. More information is available at http://www.makingthecut.ca

The Salmon Kings regular season begins on Friday October 20th in Anchorage, AK against the Aces. Their first home game at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre is on Wednesday October 25th against the Idaho Steelheads.
