Dallas Sidekicks News Release
DALLAS - Tatu finished his career the way he started, with a hat trick, as the Sidekicks fell to the Baltimore Blast 14-8 Sunday night at Reunion Arena in front of 8,976 fans.
Tatu scored the first goal of the game 6:32 into the opening period, his second pulled Dallas within 10-6 at 5:10 of the fourth, and his final goal 12:27 into the fourth quarter for the final hat trick of his career. His first hat trick came in his debut for the Tampa Bay Rowdies December 19, 1981, a 7-6 victory over the Jacksonville Tea Men. He finishes his career second with 857 goals, second with 728 assists, and second with 1585 points.
After Tatu and Giampaulo Pedroso scored to give Dallas a 4-2 lead, Baltimore (18-18) went on 8-0 run. Denison Cabral scored the bookends of the four unanswered goals with Tarik Walker and Lance Johnson in between. Tatu tried to rally the Sidekicks back from the 10-4 deficit with his pair of fourth quarter goals, but Baltimore answered each time. P.J. Wakefield tallied the first response and Johnson answered with his second goal of the game to give the Blast the 14-8 edge.
The Sidekicks finish the season 9-27 and miss the playoffs for the third time in franchise history. Tatu concludes his fifth season as player/coach, but will continue as head coach only beginning next season.
