MISL Playoff Field Now Set
March 23, 2003 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2) News Release
(Westport, CT â March 23, 2003) Major Indoor Soccer League Commissioner Steve Ryan announced that the MISL Championship Playoffs would begin on Friday, March 28, 2003 In Cleveland, Ohio. This March 28 game will feature the Baltimore Blast and the Cleveland Force in the MISL Eastern Conference Semi-Final Opening Game. Game time at the Cleveland State University Convocation Center is scheduled for 7:35 PM EST.
The victory by the Cleveland Force over the Philadelphia KiXX on Sunday, March 23 by the score of 11-8 nailed down second place in the Eastern Conference. Up until the win on Sunday the conference second place spot was hotly contested with the Baltimore Blast, who were only one game behind the Force, going into Sunday's final regular season games. The winner of the Eastern Conference Semi-Final Opening Game in Cleveland will then go to Philadelphia to play the KiXX, the Eastern Conference Regular Season Champions and defending MISL Champions. The Eastern Conference Championship Game will be held at the First Union Spectrum on Thursday, April 3 at 7:05 PM EST.
In the Western Conference Semi-Final Opening Game the Kansas City Comets will host the San Diego Sockers in Kansas City on Wednesday, April 2 at 7:05 PM CST at the Kemper Arena. The Sockers are one of the two expansion teams, which entered the MISL this season along with the Dallas Sidekicks. On Saturday the Sockers were beaten by the Sidekicks 10-2 in front of over 15,000 fans at the Reunion Arena in Dallas. On Sunday Kansas City ended their regular season with a 24-20 loss to the Heat in Harrisburg. Kansas City, by virtue of winning second place in the Western Conference, is the home team for the Western Conference Semi-final Opening Game.
The winner of the Western Conference Semi-Final Opening Round game will then travel to Milwaukee to take on the Western Conference Regular Season Champion Milwaukee Wave on Sunday, April 6 at 1:00 PM CST at the Bradley Center for the Western Conference Championship. The winners of the Eastern and Western Conference Championship Games will then square off in the best-of-three MISL Championship Series.
