Tarek Morad Heads Home Last Minute Equalizer
March 31, 2022 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Oakland Roots News Release
Oakland Roots were on the front foot early, taking the lead inside of seven minutes when Charlie Dennis hit the back of the net on a play he started. Oakland created several more chances, as did the home side, before Dennis hit the crossbar again following several Oakland corner kicks. New Mexico United equalized just before the half after some good play from Chris Wehan set up Neco Brett sliding in as the First Half ended 1-1.
The Second Half was a battle just the same as New Mexico took the 2-1 lead in the 69th minute through Sergio Rivas. Oakland refused to back down as Juan Guerra made some attacking subs, but with the clock ticking down it looked destined to be another missed opportunity for Oakland. With the 90 minutes up and deep into stoppage time, a corner kick fell to the feet of Chuy Enriquez who put in a perfect cross to find Tarek Morad on the back post who headed home the equalizer for Oakland Roots. The result meant the first point of the season for Oakland Roots.
Oakland Roots return home on Saturday, April 2nd to face the Tampa Bay Rowdies at Laney College. Kick off is set for 7:00 PM PT.
