Tarantulas win fourth straight

In front of 2,862 at the Kansas Coliseum, the Topeka Tarantulas defeated the Wichita Thunder, 4-2. Not only did the Tarantulas win their fourth straight, but they became the first team to beat the Thunder (8-1) this season.

Wichita began the scoring when Ryan McLean put one past David St. Germain at 2:59 into the first period. The teams went to their locker rooms with Wichita ahead 1-0 after the first.

The Tarantulas came flying out of the gates in the second period with goals from Vin Hellemeyer (Peter Robertson, Dallas Flaman) at 8:23, and Chris Brannen (Mike Lukajic, Andy Fermoyle) at 17:08.

Topeka padded their lead with a goal off the stick of Mike Lukajic (Cosmo Dupaul, Garett Cameron) at :50 of the third period. With the Tarantulas leading 3-1, the Thunder tried to mount a comeback when Nate Metcalf scored at 12:30.

After Jason Duda took at roughing penalty at 18:12 of the third, Cosmo Dupaul put it away for the Tarantulas, when he netted an empty net power play goal.

With the win the Tarantulas improved to 5-6.

The Tarantulas loaded the bus tonight after the game and are headed to Fort Worth to take on the Brahmas Tuesday night at 7:30. Fans can listen to the game on 1490 AM KTOP or on the Tarantulas website by clicking Live Broadcasts on the homepage.
