Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BLAIR BLANKS THE BEES â In a Tuesday afternoon "Kids Day" game at the Dodge Arena in Rio Grande Valley, Jeff Blair made 38 saves to earn his fifth career shutout as the Mudbugs defeated the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 2-0. After the scoreless opening frame, Ryan Manitowich scored on a beautiful backhand shot from the rush over Bees goaltender Jeff Levy for his first goal of the season. Two minutes and twelve seconds later, Brett Smith was denied on a breakaway opportunity but circled around the goal and fired a wrist shot past Levy for his first professional goal at 5:04 of the second period. In the third, the Mudbugs killed off a late Killer Bee power play chance and withstood the final attack from Rio Grande to preserve Blair's second career shutout against the second-year franchise.
BACK TO LAREDO â In their first game in Laredo since the highly controversial seventh game of the 2004 President's Cup Finals, the Mudbugs defeated the Laredo Bucks in a shootout 3-2 on Thursday night at the Laredo Entertainment Center. At 9:03 of the third period, Scott Sheppard scored on a wraparound during a Mudbugs power play chance to tie the game at 2-2. Just like last year's Game 7, both teams then settled into overtime in a 2-2 game. After neither team scored in an overtime power play chance, the Mudbugs went into their third shootout of the season. With goals from Sheppard, Chris Brassard, and the game-winner from Dan Wildfong, the Mudbugs claimed the 3-2 shootout win to hand Laredo its fifth loss in a row.
ROAD TRIP COMPLETE â On Saturday night, the Mudbugs completed a perfect road trip through south Texas with a 3-1 win over the Corpus Christi Rayz at the brand new American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. The win was the Mudbugs' third in a row after victories over Rio Grande Valley on Tuesday and Laredo on Thursday and improved their record to 5-3-2 this season. Dan Wildfong, Chris Brassard and Scott Sheppard provided the offense while Ken Carroll made 28 saves for his third win of the season.
