Topeka Tarantulas News Release

[TOPEKA, K.S.] - The Topeka Tarantulas of the Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today that the club has signed defenseman Frederick Jobin.

Jobin, a 6'1" 215 pound defenseman, from Montreal, Quebec has spent most of the last four seasons with the Quad-City Mallards of the United Hockey League (UHL). In his four seasons with Quad-City, Jobin tallied 118 points, and 590 penalty minutes in 251 games played. Jobin had brief stints with the Chicago Wolves of the former International Hockey League (IHL) and the Verdun Dragons of the Quebec Senior Professional Hockey League (QSPHL) during the last four seasons.

Jobin is the fourth veteran signed this season by the Tarantulas along with Troy Mann, Peter Robertson, and Cosmo Dupaul. "We have been looking for a defenseman to compliment Andy Fermoyle. We feel in Frederick Jobin we have accomplished just that." Player/Assistant Coach Troy Mann continued, "Not only is he a big, physical, in your face defenseman, he can also contribute offensively. Along with Andy Fermoyle and Peter Robertson, we expect our big three to lead our young defense."

Prior to playing with Quad-City, Jobin played in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) from 1993/94-1997/98. From 1998/99-1999/00, he split time between the San Diego Gulls of the former West Coast Hockey League (WCHL) and the Long Beach Ice Dogs of the IHL.

Jobin was selected by the Washington Capitals (round 6, 147 overall) in the 1995 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft.

Season tickets and mini-plans for the 2004-2005 season are now available. Contact the Tarantulas office at (785) 235-9466 for more information.
