San Angelo Saints News Release
San Angelo, TXâSan Angelo Saints Head Coach Ray Edwards continues to build another winning team for the 2004-05 season with the signing of defenseman Ryan Branham to contract.
Branham, 6'3" 215 pounds, played four years at Lake Superior State University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in marketing with minors in finance and economics.
"Ryan fits well into our philosophy of recruiting," said Edwards. "He is a former captain and was well regarded by his peers. Ryan is a strong, stay-at-home guy that will add an element of toughness to the team."
In four years of collegiate play, the Eagle River, Wisconsin native played in 115 games contributing a goal, 6 assists and 95 PIMs. During his freshman season, he was a physical presence at the blue line, and was named the team's most improved player his sophomore year. In 2002-03 Branham was named Assistant Captain for the Lakers and later named Captain for the 2003-04 season.
Edwards knows with the right amount of leadership and effort, players can easily be promoted to bigger roles.
"He will have a big leadership role for a first year guy and it will be a lot of pressure, but I know he can handle it. We are going to work hard with him to develop his game and hopefully that will open some doors for him in the future."
Branham played junior A hockey for the Billings Bulls of the America West Hockey League in 1999, where he helped the Bulls win their fifth league championship and represent the AWHL at the National Championship in Lincoln, Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska. He earned defensive honors in 2000 for his play with the Soo Indians of the North American Hockey League where he posted 10 points with 122 PIMs in 67 contests.
