Tarantulas sign Cosmo Dupaul

July 13, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL) - Topeka Tarantulas News Release

Topeka, Kansas: July 13, 2004 – The Topeka Tarantulas have signed ten-year pro veteran left wing, Cosmo Dupaul, head coach Joe Coombs announced today.

The 29-year-old native of Pointe-Claire, Quebec has scored 199 goals and dished out 313 assists for 512 points in 490 professional regular season games. He also has 236 penalty minutes. In 58 playoff games Dupaul has scored 26 goals with 40 assists for 66 points while adding 22 penalty minutes.

Dupaul, who has been in the WPHL/CHL for the last seven seasons, spent his first three professional campaigns splitting time between Price Edward Island of the American Hockey League, Thunder Bay of the Colonial Hockey League (now UHL) and Raleigh in the East Coast Hockey League.

Coombs, who will mentor only Dupaul among his former teammates, said “I feel good having Cosmo on our team. I expect him to lead us scoring wise. He is a point-a-game guy who shows a lot of leadership. He is also a great guy who will fit in well with the community. He is a hard worker and we are lucky to have him”.

Dupaul already has a head start on being involved with the community. A few years ago he and former Wichita Thunder goalie, Lance Leslie, teamed with Coombs instructing a hockey camp for youths and adults in Topeka.

There is one achievement Dupaul has come close to but has not reached in his career. Three times he has played on teams that have advanced to the championship series, but he is yet to hoist a cup.

Dupaul is not bitter though “I just haven’t been in the right place at the right time. I’ve had a good career and a great life at this level”.

For inspiration Dupaul looks to Dave Andreychuk who won his first Stanley Cup this spring with the Tampa Bay Lightning, after spending 22 seasons in the NHL.
