Lubbock Cotton Kings News Release

LUBBOCK, TX – Lubbock Cotton Kings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Chris Dashney has traded defenseman Derek Holland to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees in exchange for defenseman Kevin Mackie and future considerations.

"Obtaining Kevin (Mackie) will add depth and experience to our defensive corps," said Dashney.

Mackie, 6-2, 200-pounds played 64 games last season for the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees after playing two seasons in the East Coast Hockey League with the Columbia Inferno, Pensacola Ice Pilots and the Jackson Bandits. In his first two seasons as a pro in the West Coast Hockey League, the Victoria, B.C., native won the Taylor Cup with both the Phoenix Mustangs and the San Diego Gulls.

Mackie has played 243 games as a pro and is just shy of having veteran status. As a junior defenseman, Mackie split duties with the Swift Current Broncos, Medicine Hat Tigers and Kamloops Blazers from 1996-2000.
