Laredo Bucks News Release

LAREDO, Texas – The 2004 CHL President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks announced that forward Patrik Nilson has signed a free agent contract with the Calgary Flames organization. "I think it is great for Patrik that he gets a chance to showcase his skills with Calgary," said Laredo Bucks head coach Terry Ruskowski. "I hope he does very well. He is a competitor who comes to play all the time."

Nilson, from Balsta, Sweden, split last season between the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League (AHL) and the Bucks. In 60 games with Laredo, the 6'0" 180-pound forward posted 27 goals, 65 points and 62 penalty minutes. In the playoffs he tied for the CHL goal scoring lead with eight as the Bucks captured the President's Cup.

"I think this signing is great for both the Bucks and the CHL," continued Ruskowski. "The quality of the players in the CHL is improving all the time. Player standards have gone up."

Nilson, who is the younger brother of current Flames center Marcus Nilson, played two seasons with Djurgardens IF Stockholm.

The Flames advanced to the NHL Stanley Cup Finals this past spring, losing in seven games to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
