Tarantulas name Tobin team captain
[TOPEKA, K.S.] - The Topeka Tarantulas of the Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today that the club has named defenseman Frederick Jobin the first captain in franchise history.
Jobin, a 6'1" 215 pound defenseman, from Montreal, Quebec has spent most of the last four seasons with the Quad-City Mallards of the United Hockey League (UHL). In his four seasons with Quad-City, Jobin tallied 118 points, and 590 penalty minutes in 251 games played. Jobin had brief stints with the Chicago Wolves of the former International Hockey League (IHL) and the Verdun Dragons of the Quebec Senior Professional Hockey League (QSPHL) during the last four seasons.
"Freddy stood up and took charge from the minute he stepped foot in the locker room. He comes from a winning organization in Quad-City and knows what it takes to be successful." Head Coach Joe Coombs continued, "We weren't looking for a captain that was just a vocal leader. We needed someone that was a vocal leader and backed it up by his performance on the ice. Freddy was the best fit for the job."
Prior to playing with Quad-City, Jobin played in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) from 1993/94-1997/98. From 1998/99-1999/00, he split time between the San Diego Gulls of the former West Coast Hockey League (WCHL) and the Long Beach Ice Dogs of the IHL.
"It's an honor to be named the first captain in Tarantulas history." Jobin continued on the team he will lead, "We are a very solid team with fast forwards and gritty defenseman. This team will compete every night. The fans here in Topeka are going to love the team."
Central Hockey League action is back at the Landon Arena this Friday, October 22nd. The Tarantulas play host to the Wichita Thunder at 7:35 pm. The first 2,500 fans will receive magnetic schedules courtesy of KTPK 106.9.
