Tarantulas Make Trade
Topeka, Kansas: June 22, 2004 - The Topeka Tarantulas, of the Central Hockey League, have acquired three-year CHL left wing Tab Lardner from the Austin Ice Bats in a trade that sends left wing Jared Dumba to Austin.
In his professional career Lardner has never missed a regular season or playoff game scoring 119 regular season points (51 goals, 68 assists, 119 points) in 192 regular season games. In 30 career playoff games he has 15 points on 11 goals and four assists.
Lardner, 24, has played his entire professional career with Austin. The Ice Bats advanced to the Ray Miron Cup finals in his first two professional seasons.
During Lardners four-year collegiate career at Michigan State the 511, 175 lbs native of Edmonton, Alberta played in 141 games, scoring 21 goals and 34 assists for 55 points. He also spent 169 minutes in the penalty box during his career with the Spartans.
Tarantulas head coach, Joe Coombs, compared Lardner to Dumba saying, Tab is a more complete player, a great all around player. Coombs also said of Dumba, he is a goal scorer, but we had a hard time coming to terms with him.
Dumba, a 25-year old left wing from Dysart, Saskatchewan, spent the last two seasons with the Indianapolis Ice. He was on the Tarantulas roster as a result of the franchise shift of the Ice to Topeka. In five professional seasons (all in the CHL) he scored 235 points (117 goals, 118 assists, 235 points) in 240 regular season games. He also had 15 goals and 12 assists for 27 points in 31 career playoff games.
Dumba played for the Oklahoma City Blazers from late in the 1999-2000 season until midway through the 2002-03 season when he was traded to Indianapolis.
Tarantula season tickets are on sale for $250 each through Friday, June 25, 2004. A $50 deposit is required for each ticket.
The Tarantulas 60-game schedule, which begins October 22, will be released in mid-July.
