Ice Bats Obtain Goal Scorer
The Austin Ice Bats of the Central Hockey League today announced completion of a trade with the Topeka Tarantulas, acquiring left wing Jared Dumba in exchange for forward Tab Lardner. Dumba has been signed to contract for the 2004-05 CHL season.
The 25-year-old Dumba, a native of Dysart, Saskatchewan, has averaged a point per game throughout his professional career. Dumba scored 26 goals and 40 assists, including 10 power play goals in 60 games with the Indianapolis Ice last season. He then accumulated 6 goals and 2 assists in Indys five-game opening-round playoff loss to Bossier-Shreveport. Indianapolis relocated to Topeka, Kansas, where they will begin play as the Tarantulas this season.
Dumba played four seasons of junior hockey with Saskatoon of the Western Hockey League and South Surrey of the British Columbia Junior League before turning pro in 2000. He exploded for 44 goals and 76 assists in his final year of juniors with the South Surrey Eagles, then joined the CHL with the Oklahoma City Blazers.
Dumba kept up the scoring pace in his first full pro season, scoring 36 goals and 39 assists with the Blazers in 2000-01. He placed second in the voting for CHL Rookie of the Year honors that season, then scored 5 goals and 5 assists in 11 playoff games while helping the Blazers to the league championship.
After an injury-plagued sophomore season, Dumba was traded in November of 2002 to Indianapolis. But he again surpassed the 30-goal plateau with a combined 32 goals, 22 assists, and 12 power play goals in 2002-03.
Proven goal scorers are hard to come by, and Jared Dumba is just that, said Jeff Greenlaw, Ice Bats Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations. Hes a proven 30-goal scorer with four successful years in this league. Hes not afraid to mix it up in the corners and go to the net, and hes a clutch playoff performer.
Jareds offensive and power play abilities address a major need for our hockey club, Greenlaw said.
Dumba joins former CHL Outstanding Goaltender Matt Barnes, forwards Mike Olynyk and Brent Gay, and defenseman Brian Pasko as Ice Bats officially under contract for the coming season. Further signings will be announced in the coming weeks.
The Ice Bats are preparing for their ninth season of play at the Travis County Expo Center. Season tickets and corporate partnerships are currently available for the upcoming season. Once again, free Belfry Club membership is included with all full-season packages, and free parking with all full-season and 16-game ticket plans. Fans may call the Ice Bats ticket office at (512) 927-PUCK, or log onto the teams website at www.icebats.com for more information.
