Florida Fire Frogs News Release

TAMPA, FLA.: The Tampa Tarpons found a way to rally in the eighth against a nearly flawless LHP Philip Pfeifer, putting up two runs to steal a 2-1 win from the Florida Fire Frogs on Sunday afternoon at Steinbrenner Field.

Pfeifer was lights out through 7 and 2/3's frames, achieving a new career mark of 11 punchouts. He surrendered just six hits (three of them in the eighth), a walk, and two earned runs across 101 pitches, 75 of which were for strikes.

The Fire Frogs were able to get a run for Pfeifer in the fourth. Delgado singled to lead off the inning, then advanced to second on a throwing error by Tampa second baseman Oswaldo Cabrera. Jefrey Ramos drove him in with a two-out knock to center to place Florida in front, 1-0.

Delgado went 2-4, collecting his team-leading 29th multi-hit effort of the season. Ramos also had two hits, going 2-4 to move his on-base streak to 14 consecutive games.

RHP Miguel Yajure put forth his third consecutive masterful start against the Fire Frogs this season, yielding five hits and an unearned run with two walks and seven strikeouts over 7 and 1/3's innings. He was replaced by RHP Matt Wivinis (2-1), who worked his way out of an eighth inning jam left by Yajure and got the final five outs to secure his second win of the series.

After Pfeifer got the first two outs of the eighth, Jose Martinez banged his first hit of his Tarpons career to start the rally. Estevan Florial doubled him over to third. A wild pitch from Pfeifer with Steven Sensley batting plated pinch-runner Diego Castillo to tie the game at 1. Sensley's RBI two-base hit lifted the Tarpons ahead of the Fire Frogs for good, 2-1.

Sensley delivered his second game-tying or go-ahead hit of the series with that double in the eighth, leading Tampa to a series win.

Omar Carrizales had two singles for the Tarpons.

NEXT UP: The Fire Frogs continue their season-long ten-game road trip by shifting to Clearwater to take on the Dunedin Blue Jays at Jack Russell Memorial Stadium. First pitch will be thrown at 6:30 p.m.
