ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Tampa Bay Rowdies and midfielder Juan Guerra have agreed to a restructured contract for 2016 with a club option for 2017, the club announced Tuesday. Per club and league policy, further contract details were not disclosed.

Guerra played a leading role for the Tampa Bay Rowdies last season, his first in the North American Soccer League. He made 23 appearances, including 19 starts, and became one of the teams' on-field leaders as the season progressed.

"Juan brings plenty to the table as both an exceptional player on the field and a great voice to have in the locker room," Tampa Bay Rowdies Head Coach Stuart Campbell said. "He's a very smart player and he's very vocal on the field. We're happy that Juan has signed a new contract with us."

Primarily a defensive midfielder, Guerra scored two goals in 2015 and was named to the NASL Team of the Week once.

Guerra, 28, was college teammates with Tampa Bay Rowdies assistant coach Raoul Voss at Florida International University and played his professional career in his native Venezuela before signing with the Tampa Bay Rowdies last year.

The Tampa Bay Rowdies would also like to congratulate Juan and his wife Chabela on the birth of Santiago Guerra, their first child.
