July 31, 2013 - Arena Football League (AFL)
San Antonio Talons News Release
SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio Talons standout wide receiver, D.J. Stephens has been invited to work out with the Indianapolis Colts. Although he only played in 11 games, Stephens made quite the impact on the field, finishing with 55 receptions for 738 yards and 13 touchdowns. In addition to being a featured wide receiver, Stephens also served as a special teams weapon for San Antonio, ranking third overall in the Arena Football League for Kick Return Average. D.J. returned 30 kicks for 650 yards and 4 touchdowns during the 2013 season.
The Colts have a great relationship with San Antonio, and have been a pipeline for Talons players to make their way to the NFL. Former Linebacker Jerry Brown was called up by Indianapolis in 2012 after posting 34 tackles, two fumble recoveries and a blocked kick for the Talons. Brown went on to show tremendous potential for the Dallas Cowboys following his stint with the Colts. Former Talons offensive tackle, Ty Nsekhe was also called up by the Colts following his 2012 AFL season in San Antonio. Nsekhe is currently on the roster for the St. Louis Rams.
D.J. Stephens was a pivotal player on San Antonio's depth chart, securing 17 touchdowns and 102 points in 11 games for the Talons. He was one of the most accomplished rookies in the AFL this year, winning J. Lewis Small Playmaker of the week, and AFL MVP of the week. Talons Executive Vice President, Keith Recine is happy to see such a talented player recognized for his hard work and success. "D.J. Stephens is a very special player with a unique skill set. We are happy to see him secure an opportunity to showcase his talents at the NFL level. This opportunity underscores the fact that the AFL encompasses athletes of the highest caliber, and the Talons are the team they choose to play for."
The San Antonio Talons are in their second season in the Arena Football League (AFL). The team won the AFL's Central Division title, as well as hosted their first AFL playoff game in the 2012 season. For more information or to ask about season tickets please call 210.227.TEAM
