San Antonio Talons News Release
The San Antonio Talons (6-6) will look to re-gain the division lead against the New Orleans VooDoo (3-9), Saturday at 7:00 pm CST at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Both teams are coming off arguably, their best wins of the season. The Talons went to Chicago and took down the central division leading Rush 61-54; while the VooDoo recorded a huge win at home against Tampa Bay 54-51.
The last time the teams squared off was at the Alamodome on April 13, 2012. The Talons used a strong fourth quarter in that game to rally past New Orleans, and come away with a 62-48 victory. Former Talon quarterback Aaron Garcia put on quite the performance in the game, throwing for 287 yards and 9 touchdowns.
The quarterback carousel "ride" might finally be over in San Antonio. Rohan Davey stole the show against the Rush on Saturday, passing for 344 yards and six touchdowns in a 61-54 Talons win. The former LSU Tiger threw four of his six scores to wide receiver Jomo Wilson. Wilson's fourth touchdown grab of the game came with less than a minute to play, and helped the Talons complete an improbable comeback against the Rush.
VooDoo quarterback Kurt Rocco, also had a big game this past week, throwing for 210 yards and six touchdowns in a 54-51 home victory against the Tampa Bay Storm. The win did not come easy. New Orleans had a three touchdown lead for much of the game, but turnovers and careless play down the stretch almost cost them the game.
Newly added Talons receiver Brent Holmes will have a homecoming of sorts in this game. Holmes began the season as a member of the VooDoo, before being acquired by San Antonio on June 5. Since his return to the Talons, he has caught 20 passes, for 263 yards and three touchdowns.
With the offenses' of both teams playing so well, it would not be surprising if a defensive play or stop ultimately decided the game. Expect a high scoring affair in this game, but look for defense to be the main decider in the outcome.
