Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

Colorado Springs had the bases loaded in the ninth inning, but couldn't plate any of the runners, losing 4-3 to Tacoma Sunday at Security Service Field in front of 3,756.

Edwin Bellorin led off the inning with a walk before being pinch run for by Leonardo Reyes. After Rick Guarno's fielder choice, Eduardo Cornejo hit a double down the third base line. But Doug Bernier couldn't find a gap with the winning runner on second. Jayson Nix then flied out to left following Chris Frey's intentional walk, ending the game.

Glendon Rusch (0-0) pitched six effective innings for the Sky Sox. The recently-acquired left hander threw six innings of one run baseball before departing after the sixth inning with a two-run lead. Rusch has now allowed just one run in 11 innings since joining the Sky Sox on May 20.

Victor Zambrano (0-6) tossed a perfect seventh inning before surrendering the lead in the eighth. A leadoff home run by Yung Chi Chen tied the game at two. Consecutive walks to the next two batters came back to haunt the Venezuelan when they were followed by consecutive RBI hits from Shawn Garrett and Jeff Clement.

Sean White (4-3) threw 7.2 strong innings for Tacoma, allowing just three runs on nine hits, and Roy Corcoran finished the game with a shaky ninth before picking up his fourth save.

The Sky Sox and Rainiers close out their four game set Monday with a 12:35 start time. Josh Towers (4-4, 6.33) takes the hill for the Sky Sox while the Rainiers will throw Chris Jakubauskas (2-1, 2.25).
