JOLIET-The Kansas City T-Bones (46-50) scored 13 runs on 22 hits to earn a 13-6 win over the Joliet JackHammers (33-62) before 5,506 fans at Silver Cross Field on Monday night in the regular season finale for both clubs.
The Kansas City T-Bones scored two runs in the 2nd inning against JackHammers RHP Jason Novak (2-7). 1B Jim Fasano (3-6) pulled a fastball over the right field wall for his 11th home run of the season in a 1-0 Kansas City lead.
2B Neb Brown (4-5) followed with a solo home run for a 2-0 Kansas City lead.
The T-Bones followed with four runs in the 3rd inning. RF Greg Jacobs (3-6) doubled and DH Luis Terrero (0-5) walked. Fasano lifted a fly ball to center field that allowed Jacobs to move to first base. C Craig Hurba (4-6) singled to score Jacobs for a 3-0 lead.
After Brown walked to load the bases, JackHammers manager Ira Smith relived Novak of his duties and inserted RHP Luke O'Loughlin to pitch.
3B Jacob Blackwood (5-6) smacked a bases-clearing double to make it 6-0 Kansas City
The JackHammers jumped back within one run at 6-5 with five runs in the 3rd inning. C Christian Lopez (2-3) worked a walk. After LF Mike Garcia (1-4) flew out, CF Adam Klein (1-5) singled to move Lopez to second base. 2B Rob Dahlberg (1-4) singled to load the bases.
SS Kevin Rios (1-4) hit a two-run double to score Lopez and Klein and make it 6-2.
1B Freddie Thon (1-3) followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Dahlberg and bring the JackHammers within three runs at 6-3. DH Joe Gaetti (1-2) lifted a two-run home run to make it 6-5.
The T-Bones pushed across four runs in the 3rd inning and four runs in the 4th inning to take a 10-5 lead. Fasano added his second home run of the game in the 4th inning, a two-run shot.
Kansas City scored another run in the 6th inning to secure an 11-5 lead and added two insurance runs in the 9th inning.
Loose Gravel: Fresh off his start on August 29 against the Kansas City T-Bones where he struck out a season-high 13 batters, Joliet RHP Nate Sevier was named Northern League Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
He went 1-0 with a 1.08 ERA in tossing eight and one-thirds innings. He allowed one run on five hits to get the win.
