Joliet JackHammers News Release
KANSAS CITY, KS - The JackHammers got three early runs only to see the T-Bones score nine unanswered the rest of the way en route to a 9-3 loss Sunday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. Joliet is off tomorrow before starting a three game series with Lake County Tuesday night at Silver Cross Field.
The JackHammers (9-8) got the offense rolling with three in the first off Brett Davis (1-1). Jonathan Wyatt started the game with a single and moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt by Roberto Mena. Kevin Rios beat out an infield single and plated Wyatt from third, who stole the base during the at-bat. Freddie Thon followed Rios with a two run bomb to right field for the 3-0 lead.
Kansas City (11-5) would tie it up in the second against Devin Anderson (0-1). Ray Sadler and Jim Fasano singled and walked to start the frame and scored on a three run homer by Ryan Fox to tie the score at three.
The T-Bones took the lead for good in the third, plating three more against Anderson. Sadler drove home a run with a single to center and Fasano plated another with a groundout to first. Sadler would score on a stolen base and throwing error by Anderson to put Kansas City up 6-3.
Anderson lasted three innings in the start, allowing six runs (five earned) on five hits with two walks.
Davis earned the victory, shutting down the JackHammers after the first inning. The southpaw allowed only two hits after the first and five overall in the game. Davis struck out five and walked two in seven innings.
Kansas City added two more insurance runs in the sixth off Brian Gartley. Jake Blackwood tripled with one out and Rico Washington walked and stole second, allowing two runs to score on a Sadler base hit up the middle. Keanon Simon concluded the scoring with an RBI single off Sean Teague in the sixth for the 9-3 final as the T-Bones took two of three from Joliet.
Thon led the JackHammers with two hits and two runs batted in, giving him 18 RBI on the season.
Joliet will send Ross Stout (1-1) to the mound on Tuesday against Lake County. The Fielders will counter with Corey Bass. First pitch is set for 6:10 p.m. with a 6:00 p.m. pre-game show on 1340 WJOL.
Loose Gravel:
- Jorge Rodriguez extended his hitting streak to four games with a double in the second inning
- Rios drove home another run giving him 17 on the season, one shy of Thon's 18
- Both benches cleared after the final out. Rodriguez was hit with a pitch and slid hard into second base on the final out, causing both teams to exchange words
