Pilots Win One, Lose One

Schaumburg Flyers News Release

Winnipeg, MB - Schaumburg (5-11) started the day off exactly where it had left off on Saturday night. Rain forced the second game of the series against Winnipeg (10-7) to be suspended and moved to Sunday afternoon.

A solo home run by Andre Marshall gave the Pilots the lead in the top of the seventh inning when play resumed, but the bullpen couldn't hold the one run advantage. Matt Elliott blew the save in the ninth, giving up one run to make it a 5-5 game. Then in the top of the tenth, the Schaumburg bats produced two runs with the go-ahead tally off of a Chris Schultz single. The Pilots held on for a 7-5 win.

In the series finale, Todd Moser (0-3) struggled early, giving up five runs in the first two innings. But the lefty settled down to allow just those five in seven innings.

The Pilots came into the top of the eighth down 5-1 with the big bats coming up. Travis Brown started the frame with a single followed by an Andre Marshall groundout to Goldeyes first baseman Jeremy Hamilton. That's when Mike Mooney launched his second home run of the series, a two run shot over the right field wall to cut the deficit to three.

That wasn't the end of the Schaumburg rally. Joe Nowicki followed up Mooney's homer with a double down the left field line and Joey Gomes smacked a liner into center field to plate Nowicki.

But that was all the Pilots got on Sunday afternoon. Travis Brown kept the game alive in the top of the ninth, singling up the middle with two outs. But Winnipeg's Bobby Korecky delivered a 3-2 breaking ball right over the inside corner that ended the series with a 5-4 Goldeyes win.

The Pilots open up a four game set against the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks on Monday night.

First pitch is scheduled for 7 PM. Join Alex Perlman on 1410 WRMN and flyersbaseball.com for all the action as the Pilots take on the Redhawks. The Schaumburg Pilots Pregame Show gets rolling at 6:45 PM with the game to follow.
