Kansas City Monarchs News Release
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Jesse Hoorelbeke collected six RBI and the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (2-0) defeated the Kansas City T-Bones (0-2), 14-3, in the second game of the best-of-five 2010 Northern League Championship Series Thursday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
The RedHawks sent nine men to the plate in the first against Reid Santos (0-2) and scored their first three runs on Hoorelbeke's first home run of the night, giving Fargo an early lead. Mike Coles and Nic Jackson hit back-to-back singles to start the second before a third straight single scored Coles. Santos retired the next batter before leaving in favor of Cody McAllister.
McAllister walked the first batter he faced to load the bases before recording a strikeout. He then issued a walk to Carlo Cota, forcing in a run and extending Fargo's lead to 5-0.
Santos allowed five runs on seven hits and one walk in one and one-thirds innings in the loss.
Rico Washington drew a walk against Jake Laber (2-0) to begin the T-Bones half of the second and moved to third on a single by Keith Hernandez. A sacrifice fly by Dwayne White plated Washington and put Kansas City on the board. The RedHawks then added four runs in the third on three hits, two walks and a hit batter, chasing McAllister with two outs in the frame. Casey Hodges entered in relief and retired the first three batters he faced before walking Jackson in the fourth. The next batter, Eric Campbell, then hit a two run shot that brought the score to 11-1.
A solo home run by Gabriel Martinez in the fifth plated Kansas City's second run of the night, but the RedHawks answered in the sixth with three more runs. Campbell picked up an RBI double, and Hoorelbeke hit his second home run of the night, a two-run blast that extended Fargo's lead to 14-2.
Jim Fasano hit a solo home run in the eighth to cap the scoring at 14-3. Kyle Heim threw two scoreless innings of relief for Kansas City, and Drew Shetrone added a scoreless ninth.
Laber earned his second postseason win, surrendering just two runs on six hits and four walks over six innings while striking out eight.
The T-Bones try to prevent a sweep Friday night in game three of the best-of-five 2010 Northern League Championship Series as they send Andrew Cruse (1-0, 2.40) to the mound opposite T.J. Stanton (0-0, 0.00) and the RedHawks. First pitch is set for 7:02. Catch all the action online at www.tbonesbaseball.com or on radio at KXTR 1660 AM.
