
T-Bones Add Pitcher to Bolster Staff at Deadline

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - The T-Bones and manager Andy McCauley have signed left-handed starter Chris Shaver. Shaver had been pitching in the Chicago Cubs system prior to his release, splitting this season between Class A Lake Elsinore, Class AA Tennessee and Class AAA Iowa. Prior to last night's Northern League transaction deadline, the T-Bones also placed pitching coach Rick DeHart on the inactive list to make him available for activation in early September.
Shaver, 26, pitched in 17 games with Tennessee, going 2-1 with a 3.42 ERA in 23.2 innings while walking five and striking out 11. He also made 19 appearances with Lake Elsinore and pitched in three games with Iowa during the 2008 campaign. Entering this season, Shaver was 13-23 with a 3.30 ERA over 357 innings. He had pitched in 72 games, including 65 starts prior to 2008. Shaver is expected to make his first start for Kansas City later this week.
