T-Birds Tripped Up By Americans

Kennewick, February 13, 2008 - The Tri-City Americans defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 5-2 Wednesday night at the Toyota Center in Kennewick snapping the T-Birds five-game winning streak.

The T-Birds are 30-19-5-2 and in fifth place in the Western Conference playoff standings. They are three points behind the fourth place Kelowna Rockets with one game in hand.

The T-Birds return to KeyArena on Friday, February 15, to take on the Chilliwack Bruins at 7:35 p.m. Tri-City took a 1-0 lead at 7:35 of the first period on a goal by Radek Meidl. Tyler Schmidt and Blair Macauley had the assists.

TJ Fast scored a power-play goal at 18:07 of the first to give the Americans a 2-0 lead. Colton Yellow Horn and Taylor Procyshen had the assists.

Tri-City (43-12-1-2) outshot Seattle 21-7 in the first period.

Mason Wilgosh scored at 6:21 of the second period to put Tri-City in front 3-0. Adam Hughesman and Joel Ridgeway had the assists.

Fast was awarded a penalty shot at 8:12 of the second when he was hooked by Jim O'Brien on a shorthanded breakaway. Fast beat Seattle goalie Riku Helenius over the right shoulder for the goal.

The T-Birds got on the board at 11:15 of the second when Greg Scott scored. Scott took feed from Lindsay Nielsen in the slot and beat Tri-City goalie Chet Pickard over the glove. Thomas Hickey had the second assist on the goal. Scott extended his point streak to 10 games with the goal.

Meidl scored a second goal on the night at 15:00 of the second on a breakaway. Macauley had the assist on the goal.

The T-Birds outshot the Americans 12-10 in the second period. The Americans led 31-19 in total shots after two periods.

Prab Rai scored a power-play goal at 15:57 of the third period to get the T- Birds second goal. Hickey fed the puck to David Richard who brought the puck into the Americans zone. Richard got a shot on goal that rebounded in front of Pickard. Rai was following the play and put the puck past Pickard for his 10th goal of the season. Richard extended his point streak to seven games with the assist and Rai has a five-game point streak with the goal.

Seattle outshot Tri-City 8-6 in the third period but the Americans finished with a 37-27 advantage in total shots.

Helenius made 32 saves on 37 shots and his record is now 17-10-5-1.

Pickard stopped 25 of 27 shots and his record is 37-8- 1-2.

The T-Birds travel to Everett to take on the Silvertips on Saturday, February 16, at 7:05 p.m. and then are back at KeyArena on Sunday, February 17, to face the Americans at 5:05 p.m.
