Daytona Tortugas News Release

Pitcher Jason Szuminski was promoted to AA West Tennessee this morning.

Zoomer's 2003 stats:

W- L- S ERA GP IP H AB AVG TBF R ER HR BB SO WP BK
TOTALS 2- 1- 0 3.65 13 24.2 29 98 .296 111 12 10 0 9 23 0 0

No player has been named to replace Szuminski. Jason is a MIT graduate who resides in San Antonio, Texas, during the off-season.

Last night former Daytona Cubs infielder Josh Arteaga pitched in relief for the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx in a losing effort to the Huntsville Stars (Milwaukee Brewers).

Coincidentally:

-Not only did the Major League Cubs and Brewers faced each other yesterday, but their AA teams (Diamond Jaxx and Stars) also went head-to-head. 2002 Daytona Cubs Pitcher Todd Wellemeyer was called up to the bigs yesterday and struck out the Brewers in order last night in the 17th inning to record a save in his first appearance. The Cubs won the game 4-2.

The Daytona Cubs are on their way to Ft Myers at this moment; the bus pulled out at 8:00 am. The Cubs face a tough Miracle team tonight (tied for 1st with the Dunedin Blue Jays in the Western Division) and then come home on Tuesday for a six game home stand and eight home games in nine days (Monday is an off day in the FSL for Memorial Day).

Attention all military Veterans!

We Want You!

Tuesday all veterans wearing their uniforms will be admitted free for Armed Forces Day. All those veterans in uniform will be offered the opportunity to join other veterans on the field to lead the crowd in the singing of the National Anthem. We'll have a pre-game push-up contest on field, look for a twist to the Sonny's Pig Out Contest during the game, and of course, we'll have beans and weenies and other foxhole fare at the concession stands. A couple 'lucky' fans will sample MREs (C-Rats for you old timers), and the 1st of the 265th ADA (Air Defense Artillery), recently home from deployment, will have a Hummer on site with an Avenger Missile System. We'll have prizes for the oldest and youngest veterans in attendance, military tunes for everybody, and we'll thank our veterans for reminding us that freedom isn't free.

Come join us for a Salute to the Military Veteran on Tuesday, May 20th! Gates open at 6:00 pm, game time against the Clearwater Phillies is 6:45 pm.

Now, for you kids out there...Tuesday is also a national fun holiday: Amelia Earhart/Charles Lindberg Day. We will have a post-game paper airplane contest for kids in the outfield.

Please forward this email to your military friends in the community.

See you Tuesday!
