Syracuse Silver Knights News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Silver Knights have re-signed goalkeeper Andrew Coughlin and midfielder Nate Bourdeau for the 2017-2018 season.
Coughlin has played for Canisius College, Syracuse University, and FC Buffalo. He joined the Silver Knights in the 2015 season after completing his college career at Canisius. The Baldwinsville native is currently the goalkeeper coach for the Syracuse Men's Soccer team.
"Andrew is going into his third season and I look for Andrew to make a huge jump from last season being his first full season in goal with us to this coming season," said Silver Knights General Manager Tommy Tanner. "I look for Andrew to bring leadership and have a great season this year."
Coughlin began his Silver Knight career as a backup to starter Bryan O'Quinn, one of the best goalies in the MASL. Coughlin eventually went 5-2 as a starter and was named to the league's all-rookie team in 2015-16 season. Last year, he played in 15 games, finishing the season with a .650 save percentage.
Seasoned veteran Nate Bourdeau returns to the Silver Knights after recording seven goals and four assists in 19 games last season. The midfield played in USL soccer with the Rochester Rhinos as a midfielder and was a member of the 2015 USL Championship team.
Most recently, Bourdeau played with Syracuse FC in the 2017 season, where he was named to the first team All-Division squad. Bourdeau served as the Syracuse FC captain and has featured with the Syracuse Silver Knights since 2012.
"Nate is a seasoned veteran and a true asset to the team," said Silver Knights Head Coach Ryan Hall. "He is one of the more technical players and one that we can rely on to maintain possession during the game. It's great to have him back on the team this year. He is a true professional both on and off the field and serves as an excellent ambassador of indoor soccer."
Bourdeau began his soccer career at Baldwinsville's Baker High School, where he is the school's all-time leader in goals and assists. As a top 100 recruit and CNY standout scholastic player, Bourdeau went on to play soccer at Boston College for one season before becoming captain of the Rutgers University in 2009.
Bourdeau was a three-year starter with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. As a senior, he was an All-Big East Team member and captained a team that went to the Sweet 16, where he received team MVP honors.
Bourdeau, as well as Coughlin, is one of three alumni from Baldwinsville's Baker High School on the Silver Knights. He also has a soccer school, Bourdeau's Skills School, located in Baldwinsville.
"Nate has been a great role model because of his work ethic and attitude at training and in games," said Coughlin. "I think we both try to positively represent Baldwinsville and take pride in having the opportunity to play professionally in our hometown."
The Silver Knights start their 2017-18 campaign on the road when they play the Turlock Express on November 3rd. The first home game for Syracuse is on November 10th against the Ontario Fury at the Oncenter War Memorial Arena. For tickets and other information, call 315-303-7261.
