
Syracuse Silver Knights Add Veteran Anthony Maher

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Silver Knights today announced the signing of forward Anthony Maher to their 2011-2012 roster, pending league approval.
The Cape May, New Jersey native graduated from Mercy College, where he was an NSCAA First Team All-American in 2001. Maher started his professional indoor career in 2002 with the Cleveland Force of Major Indoor Soccer League. He was named the Force's Team Rookie of the Year and selected to the All League Rookie First Team. In 2003, the Force traded Maher to the Kansas City Comets, where he was named "Newcomer of the Year producing a career-best 28 goals in the 2003-2004 season. He followed that with 20 goals and 5 assists in only 14 games his second season with the Comets. The veteran forward also has played for the Missouri Comets, Chicago Riot, Philadelphia KiXX, Milwaukee Wave, Chicago Storm and California Cougars.
Maher also is an accomplished outdoor player, starting his professional soccer career with the Wilmington Hammerheads of the USL Second Division prior to signing with the Cleveland Force. In 2004, he signed with the Syracuse Salty Dogs, where he was named the team's Offensive Player of the Year. In 2007, Maher signed with the Carolina Railhawks of the USL First Division and was inducted into the South Jersey Soccer Hall of Fame in the Spring of 2009.
"Anthony's indoor experience and ability as a target forward will help bring our team to the next level as we make our playoff push. He is capable of putting up some big numbers as we saw when he was with the Salty Dogs. He will surely become a fan favorite from the start." said Silver Knights General Manger, Jon Ramin.
When asked about his return to Syracuse Maher said "I am very exicted to sign with Tommy Tanner & the Syracuse Knights of the MISL. I have seen the team play many games this season & feel this is a great fit. I share in Tommy's philosphy of working hard & working together towards winning a championship in the Major Indoor Soccer League. I look forward to bringing my 10 Years of professional soccer experience to this fast & young squad."
The Syracuse Silver Knights stand at 5-6 on the season, and the team's next game is at the Oncenter War Memorial this Saturday, December 31st at 1:00 p.m. against the Norfolk SharX.
