Syracuse Crunch Sign Vance Lederman to 22-Year Contract Extension
March 17, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Syracuse Crunch News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Crunch have signed Vance Lederman to a 22-year contract extension, Crunch owner Howard Dolgon announced today.
Lederman has been part of the Crunch since the team came to Syracuse in 1994. He currently serves as the team's senior vice president of business operations and chief financial officer. His dedication and service to the organization will be honored on March 25 when the team hosts Vance Lederman Night.
"We strongly felt that this was the right time to lock Vance into a long-term commitment as we have heard that there were several organizations interested in signing him," said Dolgon. "He is a legendary figure in Syracuse and we are delighted that he will be with the Crunch as he celebrates his 80th birthday in 2038."
"I'm really excited for the opportunity to be part of the Crunch organization for another 22 years," said Lederman. "During my time here, many of my friend's children have worked for me. I'm looking forward to their grandchildren working for me."
The Crunch inked Lederman to a 12-year contract with a 10-year option. The contract extension will double the Brooklyn, New York native's tenure with the team.
"It was an easy decision to extend my contract," said Lederman. "It was made easier when my wife had no interest in me retiring any time soon."
Lederman will be 70 when the parties approach the 10-year option. The No. 44 is storied in the Syracuse community. If Lederman accepts the option, he will be with the Crunch for 44 seasons.
"I haven't slowed down at all," Lederman said. "I can talk to more people in an hour now than when I was 21. I'm walking the halls at a brisker pace than the 1990s."
Lederman's hard work and dedication were recently recognized as he was selected as the winner of the James C. Hendy Memorial Award, given to the outstanding executive in the American Hockey League for the 2014-15 season.
To celebrate his commitment to the organization, the team will dedicate the March 25 contest to Lederman. In honor of the V-man, the first 1,500 fans at the War Memorial Arena will receive a Lederman mask. The team will also recognize Lederman during a pregame ceremony. In addition, any fan 5-foot-4 and shorter will receive a ticket discount for March 25.
To purchase tickets for Vance Lederman Night, call the Crunch at 315-473-4444 or visit the Crunch office inside the War Memorial Arena at 800 S. State St. in Syracuse.
