Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: This afternoon, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Syracuse Chiefs in the third game of a four-game series from Dunn Tire Park (1:05 p.m.). The Herd has lost the first two games of the set, falling to the Chiefs 7-5 on Tuesday and 4-2 yesterday. Buffalo is currently 2-4 on their eight-game homestand that began with a four-game split with the Toledo Mud Hens. On the mound today is RHP Brian Slocum, who didn't allow a hit in five innings on Saturday in a victory against the Hens. The Chiefs will counter with LHP Bill Murphy.
SHORT NO-NO: RHP Brian Slocum was nearly perfect in his last outing. He retired 15 of the 16 batters he faced, allowing only a walk and no hits in five innings to the Toledo Mud Hens on Saturday. The only reason Slocum left the game is because of an inning restriction the righty has after missing most of last season with an arm injury. But he's healthy now, and has allowed just five hits in 9.2 innings so far in 2008. The Bisons are 2-0 in the games he's started this year.
HAVE YOU HERR'D: Infielder Aaron Herr has driven in two runs in each of his last three games. Yesterday, he accounted for the Bisons' scoring with a two-run double in the fourth inning. Herr now has nine RBI for the year, tied with Andy Gonzalez for the most on the team. Last year, Herr finished T4th in the International League with 83RBI while playing for Louisville.
HIT STREAK: Infielder Danny Sandoval kept his hit streak going last night with a single in three plate appearances. The stretch has now reached nine games. During the streak, Sandoval has hit .303 (10-33) with two doubles, two RBI and four runs scored. In 2005, Sandoval was the International League's batting champion with a .331 average with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
IRON MAN: Infielder Jordan Brown is the only Bisons player to have played in all 14 of the Bisons games this year. Brown has made 12 starts at first base and two more as the designated hitter. He has started every game in the team's clean-up spot.
NICE EYES: Infielder Ryan Mulhern has shown great patience already this year. He walked twice yesterday and now has a team-high eight base-on-balls this season. That has helped him reach base in 10 of 11 games with a .378 on-base percentage.
