Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC News Release
Colorado Springs, Colo. (Wednesday, August 19, 2015) - The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC are in a three-way tie for second, with 39 points, in the USL's Western Conference.
The Switchbacks were hoping to earn another three points and move back to the top of the table, but they fell to the Seattle Sounders FC 2 (S2) Wednesday afternoon. The final score was 3-2.
"This is an unacceptable loss,"Â said Switchbacks FC Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. "We played very well in the first half and then conceded goals that were uncharacteristic of us."
The match started out in typical Switchbacks' fashion with an early goal. A perfectly placed heel pass from Luke Vercollone (#4) lead to an 18th minute goal from Miguel Gonzalez (#10).
Then, early in the second half, S2 put one of two new signees into the match. Myron Samuel made his S2 debut by scoring his first of two goals in the 51st minute. Then it was Sergio Mota's turn in the 78th . In the 89th, it was Samuel again with a goal.
The Switchbacks kept fighting to get those goals back and a great pass by Miguel Gonzalez set up a Aaron King goal in the 94th minute. Time then ran out and the match ended with the Switchbacks down 3- 2.
"It was a very tough result today,"Â said Switchbacks FC's Aaron King. "It's never easy losing when you have the lead as we did. Now it's time to really step it up as a group and find ways to get the needed results to end at the top of the table, and go into the playoffs with momentum."
"This was a tough loss away from home,"Â said Switchbacks FC's Miguel Gonzaelz. "It felt like we worked hard until the end, but fell short. We have to keep our heads up and keep working to get better. We need to get back on track."
Today's loss leaves the Switchbacks (12-8-3) in second place and tied with S2 (12-8-3) with 39 points in the USL's Western Conference.
The Switchbacks are on the road again next Wednesday, August 26th at 7 p.m. when they take on the Real Monarchs SLC. So far this season, the Switchbacks have beat the Real Monarchs in their last four meetings, including one U.S. Open Cup match.
