Sweets Win in Dramatic Fashion in 11 Innings

Walla Walla, WASH- The Walla Walla Sweets (15-11) walked-off on the Yakima Valley Pippins (14-11) in the 11th inning to win 3-2 on Friday night. Willie MacIver (Washington) ended it with a walk-off home run.

The Pippins took the lead early in the fourth on an RBI single, but the Sweets countered in the bottom half of the inning on a solo home run by Cole Rutherford (Cornell).

With the score tied at one, the Sweets took the lead in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Chris McCready (San Diego).

Yakima Valley tied the game in the seventh and then the Sweets' bullpen took over. They retired the last 13 Pippins batters in the game.

In the bottom of the 11th, MacIver led off the inning with a long at-bat. On the 10th pitch of the at-bat, he send a hanging slider out to left field to end the game.

Bobby Ay (Cal Poly) pitched brilliantly in the no decision, throwing eight innings of two-run ball with eight strikeouts and no walks. Kyle Narahara (Cal State Monterey Bay) picked up the win for Walla Walla and improved to 1-2.

The Sweets and the Pippins will collide in game three tomorrow. Easton Lucas (Pepperdine) will be on the mound for the rubber game for Walla Walla.
