Walla Walla, WASH - The Walla Walla Sweets (14-11) dropped game one of the series 6-3 against the Yakima Valley Pippins (14-10) on Thursday night. The Sweets have now lost two straight games.

Walla Walla jumped out in front first with a run in the first inning on an RBI base hit by Ben Baird (Washington). This game marked the third time in 15 games that the Sweets lost after they scored first.

The Pippins took the lead on a two-RBI double in the second and added to it with a run in the third and fourth innings to make it 4-1.

Walla Walla fought back in the sixth with two runs on RBIs by Jarren Duran (Long Beach State) and Baird again. That brought the contest within one run at 4-3.

The Pippins then rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh, both with two outs, to take the lead again by three at 6-3.

Walla Walla left 12 runners on base in the game and went 2-18 with runners in scoring position.

The Sweets were eliminated from first-half contention with the loss today and Victoria has officially won the first half in the North Division.

The Sweets and the Pippins will face off tomorrow in game two and Walla Walla will send Bobby Ay (Cal Poly) to the mound.
