Walla Walla Sweets News Release

Walla Walla, Wa- The Sweets took the second game of three to tie up the series on a walk-off wild pitch against the Applesox. It was the second walk-off of the season for Walla Walla.

The Applesox jumped out in front in the third with an RBI single by Joey Jenson that scored Danny Amaral.

The Sweets would counter with three of their own to snag the lead in the fifth. It was started by Juan Gamez and Mike Benson who singled to lead off the inning. After Jon Hechtner reached on an error, Gamez came around to score on an RBI infield single by Parker Coss off the glove of the pitcher.

The next batter, Kyle Dozier, picked up an RBI on a ground out to short to knock in Benson. That was followed up by an RBI single by Kyle Nixon to score Hechtner. That gave the Sweets a 3-1 lead.

The Applesox would fight back in the seventh as they took the lead back with three runs on four consecutive hits. It was capped off by a two-run double by Keston Hiura, his first hit of the series.

Walla Walla came back to tie it in the bottom of that same frame. After Dozier extended his hitting streak to eight games with a single, he was replaced with a pinch runner, Dyllin Mucha. After moving to third on an pick-off attempt overthrow, he scored on a Connor Kopach RBI ground out.

The score was tied at four into the bottom of the ninth and the Sweets would load the bases with no one out. With Hechtner on at third, a 1-2 breaking ball in the dirt to Kopach got away from the catcher, Erik Sauve, and Hechtner came in to score.

The rubber game will take place tomorrow at 7:05pm. It is firework night as well, so be sure to grab your tickets while they are still there at wallawallasweets.com.
